As of August 2008, the designation of RNCP (Registered
Nutritional Consulting Practitioner TM) given by the
IONC is being changed to ROHP
(Registered Orthomolecular Health Practitioner TM). For this year practitioners have the
option of keeping the old designation, using both, or
registering under only the new designation, and after August
2009 the old designation of RNCP will be no longer used.
IONC is creating this new designation in order to better
represent it's practitioners and differentiate them from other
professionals who also use the name 'nutritionist' such as
dietitians. The new name better represents practitioners with
the IONC and puts emphasis on the nutritional supplementation,
detoxification, and drainage that is used alongside nutrition.
The term "Orthomolecular" literally means
'correct molecules,' with the molecules being vitamins, minerals, amino
acids, enzymes, and essential fatty acids that are essential for
proper functioning of the body.
Orthomolecular therapy is health preservation
and disease prevention with supplementation (sometimes in high
doses) of substances normally present in the body.
